Thank you, Sallie, for another excellent article on abuse recovery. My last newsletter was on the same subject and I am in complete agreement with you! As an abuse survivor, life coach and spiritual director specializing in childhood trauma recovery, I think that the spiritual aspect to our healing is perhaps the most overlooked or neglected. As you wrote, it can be a very difficult area to tend to, yet the potential for healing as a result is phenomenal.

Blessings on you and your work as you continue to advocate for those healing from abuse.

Ditto to what Misa wrote. When I wake up out of a dream or nightmare, I immeadiatly open my eyes, tell myself where I am- my house, my city, etc... Also, I have found to disarm overwhelming emotion is to process numbers. that is, recall any phone numbers, addresses, zip codes, pin codes, anything with NUMBERS. This I learned years ago is a great mechanism for dis-empowering emotions/feelings. In particular, those that are disturbing - fear, panic, sadness, etc.... RE-RUN NUMERIC patterns in your head or even aloud - addresses, phone #'s, etc... It really works. Give it a try.

Keep on keepin' on Sallie. U DA BOMB!

Excellent article with very specific tips on how to manage nightmares. Dreams can be so disturbing but they can also serve as red flags for unhealed memories. As we give loving attention to these places in our minds and hearts, we can disarm those things that have unconscious control over our thoughts and behavior.

Thank you for all of the insight and tools you offer, Sallie!
