Beyond Abuse Seminar

For Those Impacted by Abuse

This is a one-day seminar for people who are impacted directly and indirectly by abuse. The seminar combines information and spiritual insights in a lecture format (with workbooks and live presentation). Normally, the seminar is given on a Saturday and goes from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm with a 45 minute break for lunch. The seminar must be scheduled well in advance by a sponsoring church or organization.

Survivors, partners, friends, and survivor support networks will find this to be significant and helpful.

Topics covered during the seminar include:

  • What abuse teaches.
  • The secondary symptoms of abuse.
  • Helping abuse survivors.
  • Spiritual Connections.
  • The sub-text of Christ's life.
  • Strategies to manage stress.

Cost:

    $ 1,000.00 Presentation Fee
    $ 10.00 Per Participant For Each Seminar Manual *
    Round Trip Travel Expenses from Hot Springs, Arkansas
    (airfare or $0.37/mile if land travel is feasible)
    Lodging (in a hotel) and meals for the presenter & assistant

    A $ 100.00 deposit is required to secure the seminar presentation. The balance of the fees due is payable on the day of the seminar presentation.

    * Plus shipping costs. There is also an optional one time self print option, the fee is $100 for the first 20 manuals. Please contact our office for details.

Facility Recommendations:

    The seminar presentation works best when participants can sit at tables in order to take notes. The presenter will need a table or podium to speak from; a screen set up for the video presentation, and in some instances, a video projector (if air travel is required). A four minute DVD can also be included if the sponsor can arrange a television with a DVD player.

Responsible Care Training Seminar

A Seminar for Clergy, Spiritual Directors, Church Staff, and Leadership Volunteers

This training seminar (with workbooks and live presentation) is designed for Clergy, Spiritual Directors, Church Staff, and Leadership Volunteers. It gives a broad overview of issues that result from childhood abuse, specifically addressing childhood sexual abuse. This four hour seminar normally occurs during the work week (Monday through Friday), and can be scheduled for a day or evening presentation. Weekend seminars may also be arranged.

Topics covered during the seminar include:

  • Definitions of abuse.
  • Damage to the developing person.
  • Longings and voice.
  • Secondary symptoms and long-term damage.
  • Memory and concentration.
  • Forgiveness and confrontation.
  • Helping in ways that do not hurt.
  • Risk management and safe environment considerations to protect children, youth, and vulnerable adults.
  • Compassionate and responsible policies when a sex offender wishes to attend services and activities offered by the faith community.
