Beyond Abuse Seminar

. . . to help abuse survivors and their loved ones find hope, understanding, empowerment, and strategies for healing

This 5 hour seminar is for men and women who are survivors of abuse, their partners, family, and friends, and those who want to gain a better understanding of how abuse impacts a person's life. The seminar combines practical information and spiritual insights that will provide significant help. A fill-in-the-blank workbook follows the presentation.

Survivors, partners, friends, and survivor support networks will find this to be significant and helpful.

Topics covered during the seminar include:

  • What abuse teaches.
  • The issues that abuse survivors struggle with.
  • How God factors into abuse recovery.
  • The sub-text of Christ's experiences.
  • Strategies to manage stress.

Cost:

    $ 750.00 Presentation Fee
    $ 10.00 Per Participant For Each Seminar Manual - FEE WAIVED FOR SELF PRINT OPTION
    Round Trip Travel Expenses from Hot Springs, Arkansas
    (airfare or $0.40/mile if land travel is feasible)
    Lodging (in a hotel) and meals for the presenter & assistant

    A $ 100.00 deposit is required to secure the seminar presentation. The balance of the fees due is payable on the day of the seminar presentation.

Facility Recommendations:

    The seminar presentation works best when participants can sit at tables in order to take notes. The presenter will need a table or podium to speak from; a screen set up for the video presentation, and in some instances, a video projector (if air travel is required). A four minute DVD can also be included if the sponsor can arrange a television with a DVD player.

Responsible Care Training Seminar

. . . for clergy, staff, and leadership volunteers of congregations

This 5 hour seminar is for clergy, spiritual directors, staff and leadership volunteers of congregations provides information, direction, and insight regarding appropriate care for those in your congregation and community who struggle with issues of abuse. Your leadership will learn effective, sensitive, and appropriate responses to difficult questions and issues that abuse survivors and their families struggle with. They will be exposed to a comprehensive understanding of the healing tools available to help you reach your overall outreach goals within your congregation and community. A fill-in-the-blank workbook follows the presentation.

Topics covered during the seminar include:

  • Definitions and long term damage of childhood abuse.
  • Common issues that abuse survivors struggle with.
  • Forgiveness in the abuse recovery process.
  • Helping in ways that do not hurt.
  • Creating a culture of safety for children, youth, and vulnerable adults.
  • Developing responsible and compassionate policies if a sex offender wished to attend services and activities offered by your congregation.

Spirituality and Childhood Sexual Abuse Recovery

. . . a secular seminar for therapists, clinicians, and other helping professionals

This 3 hour seminar qualifies for CEU credit in most areas. It is an academic treatment of therapy and the place of spirituality in abuse recovery treatment. The seminar is not a doctrinal presentation, but does give close examination to the role of spirituality, particularly Christian spirituality, and counselor competency to guide clients who wish to address these issues during therapy.

Topics covered during the seminar include:

  • PTSD symptoms and the role that Attachment plays in how they develop.
  • Spirituality's potential as a positive, therapeutic experience.
  • The positive and negative impact of religion and spirituality on abuse survivors.
  • Attachment disorder with God.
  • The role of shame in triggering PTSD symptoms.
  • The language of faith in therapy, including the concepts of sin, grace, and forgiveness.
  • Developing competencies to address spirituality in client treatment and care.
