Does Committed to Freedom really make a difference?
This is what men and women who experienced our ministry want you to know:

Donna

Betrayal. It was the theme of my childhood. Thirteen years of betrayal. A lifetime of scars. Sexually abused from ages five to eighteen by my stepfather, I was systematically betrayed, unloved, and discarded. Then, God brought Committed to Freedom into my life. I learned to exchange the lies taught to me by my abuse experiences for the truth that I am loved, included, empowered, and cherished.

Jason

Church was the center of my family’s social life. I spent all day Sunday at church as a little boy. All day long, church was filled with preaching, music and enthusiastic worship. All night long was sheer terror once we got home. Tired of the shame, the guilt, and the terror, I agreed to attend a Committed to Freedom retreat. I can honestly say that I will never be the same again. Because of Committed to Freedom, I learned to forgive. I learned to live with myself, and others, without shame and guilt. I learned to love me.

Committed to Freedom says they provide “tools” to help people move beyond abuse, but for me, I was given “gifts” that changed my life. My father began to sexually abuse me when I was five years old. What my father started, my brothers continued until I was fifteen. That left me an addict with a lot of destructive relationships in my wake. I look back now and recognize how much time I have given away to my abusers and my pain. Committed to Freedom helped me to discover the true treasure that I am.

Matt

When I was a fourteen-year-old boy, a thirty-year-old man sexually assaulted me. He befriended me and exploited my loneliness. I dropped out of high school, turned to crime and hard drugs, anything to hide my shame and kill my pain. I sank so low that I sold myself as a prostitute in order to support my drug habit. I decided to go to a Committed to Freedom retreat for men. Committed to Freedom helped me to mourn the loss of my innocence. It was an incredibly freeing event, one that I can never fully explain. Today, seven years later, I have been clean, sober, sexually restored, and living my dream – I am married and have a home, a family, and a purpose.

Sabrina

Sabrina

The sexual abuse I experienced happens to a lot of kids, but it instilled in me the lie that I was a bad person and not “good enough” for any other use. For the next fifteen years I stayed away from God and church. As I began work on my master’s program in counseling, I heard about Committed to Freedom, but was very apprehensive. Even though I was angry with God, I yearned for him. At the Committed to Freedom retreat, we made peace.
